The school offers a wide range of nursing and midwifery programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate entry levels. At undergraduate level, we are one of few schools internationally that offer specialisms at the point of entry: general nursing; intellectual disability nursing, mental health nursing, integrated children’s and general nursing and a separate direct entry midwifery programme. At postgraduate level, we offer a number of specialist programmes including advanced practice. All teaching and learning is underpinned by innovative pedagogies, simulation based clinical education and research evidence. The University College Cork, School of Nursing and Midwifery is ranked number thirty-third nursing school in the World, according to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. The rankings highlight the world’s top universities in 48 different subject areas (as of 2019) based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact. The school moved to 1st in subject Ranking in Ireland in 2022 and remains for 2023. BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies

BSc (HONS) NURSING STUDIES

About the Programme The BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies is a full time post-registration degree programme (60 credits) for registered nurses. The programme is offered annually commencing in September of each year. On successful completion of the programme, graduates are awarded a National University of Ireland Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Hons) Nursing Studies degree. The BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies degree is aimed at building on the foundations provided by pre-registration programmes and professional experience. It should appeal to students from a number of clinical areas and from management positions. It will provide an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge applicable to an ever changing healthcare environment. Over the past four years this programme has appealed to applicants in fourteen different countries in Asia and Africa. Course Delivery Applicants will complete the BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies degree over 1 academic year. Students will be scheduled for at least 15 hours of organised daytime tuition each week. Entry Requirements (a) Applicants must hold active registration as a nurse in the professional register of their country of residence. (b) If first language is not English, provide current evidence (i.e. within past 2 years) of proficiency in English as follows: • minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with no less than 6.5 in each band or equivalent) or any other tests as deemed suitable by the School of Nursing & Midwifery. Note: The BSc (Hons) Nursing degree is an academic qualification and does not lead to registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

MSc Nursing (Non EU)

About the Programme The MSc (Nursing) non clinical pathway is a full-time programme (i.e. 90 credits) taken over 12 months from the date of first registration (commencing in September of each year). The purpose of the programme is to enable students to further develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes gained at Bachelor level and apply these to professional practice in a rapidly evolving healthcare system globally. Entry Requirements (a) Must hold active registration on a division of the professional register maintained by the Nursing Board/Statutory Body in their own country. (b) Must hold a primary degree in nursing (minimum Second Class Honours standard) or an equivalent qualification. MSc in Healthcare Quality Improvement

MSc IN HEALTHCARE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (Fully online) About the Programme The MSc in Healthcare Quality Improvement is an online programme that offers a flexible online approach to learning, designed to allow healthcare professionals to undertake their studies while working simultaneously. Course Delivery This part time online degree programme consists of seven 10-credit modules, and one 20-credit module. Each 10-credit module will be delivered over a six-week period with one module delivered at a time. Five 10-credit modules to the value of 50-credits in Year 1 must be completed before registering for Year 2. Two 10-credit and one 20-credit module (Dissertation) will be delivered in Year 2. The 20-credit Dissertation module will be delivered over 33 weeks. Entry Requirements Applicants must be qualified healthcare professionals registered with the regulatory body in their country of residence. Applicants must have a primary degree, Level 8 or equivalent. Applicants from outside the European Union region or whose first language is not English must satisfy the university of their competency in the English language.

MSc Research Nursing/Midwifery

MSc NURSING (BY RESEARCH) AND MScMIDWIFERY (BY RESEARCH) About the Programme The candidate will pursue a course of supervised research. The student will submit a thesis on the work completed during the course of their study. This thesis will be assessed by both an internal and an external examiner. Entry Requirements and Procedure • To be eligible for consideration to undertake a programme of study for a Master’s Degree by Research, a candidate must have obtained a standard of at least Second Class Honours in an approved primary degree or present other such evidence under the University’s Policy for the Recognition of Prior Learning for Admission to Research Degrees. • All applications for admission to a programme of study and research for the Degree of Master will be considered by the relevant College/Faculty, following recommendation of the Head of Department/School in which the programme is to be pursued, after consultation with the Departmental/ School Graduate Studies Committee. PhD NURSING/PhD MIDWIFERY About the Programme The PhD Nursing/Midwifery is a full-time programme taken over 3 years from the date of first registration (commencing in October/January/April/July of each year). It is designed to provide students from a range of different nursing backgrounds with a Doctoral degree. The purpose of the PhD in Nursing/ Midwifery degree programme is to prepare scholars who will discover and extend scientific knowledge that advances the science and practice of nursing, midwifery and health care. (a) hold active registration on a division of the professional register maintained by the Nursing/Midwifery Board or Statutory Body in their country of origin. (b) hold Second Class Honours, Grade I, in an approved primary degree, or other such other evidence under the University’s policy for Recognition of Prior Learning for Admission to Research Degrees. VISITING INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAMME

Entry Requirements A student must currently be a registered Nursing or Midwifery student at another university in order to apply to become a visiting student in the School of Nursing & Midwifery. The minimum GPA required is normally 3.0 or above. However, applications between 2.8 and 3.0 will be considered in exceptional circumstances. English Language Proficiency: • IELTS: 6.5 (with no individual section lower than 6)

For students who wish to undertake a study abroad experience in University College Cork, the School of Nursing & Midwifery is an ideal choice. CENTRE FOR THE INTEGRATION OF RESEARCH, TEACHING & LEARNING (CIRTL)

University College Cork is one of the lead institutes in Ireland for Teaching and Learning. The Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) in UCC has coordinated accredited courses in Teaching and Learning since 2004. The name CIRTL reflects the Centre’s particular expertise and reputation in research informed teaching and learning practices. Irish culture. Participants can attend an intense two-week Summer School course in Cork. On completion of the course participants will receive: On completion of the course participants will receive: • A certificate acknowledging professional development in English language proficiency. • A certificate acknowledging professional development in integrating research, teaching and learning. • Access to links and archives that will sustain their research work in this field. • The course also provides a pathway to the online European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) certified programme in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. • Participants in the 9-month course would be expected to engage in research into teaching and learning, and to work towards a scholarly

publication. Topics to be explored in the Summer School include: • Key transformations shaping Higher Education, e.g., digital education, internationalisation, and sustainability • Curriculum design for innovative and impactful student learning • Fostering Global reach and internationalisation of the curriculum • Digital transformations in Higher Education • Current topics and trends in HEI in Europe including Academic integrity, Sustainable Development Goals, Micro-credentials, and Generative AI • Higher Education leadership with a focus on strategy development and enhancing international reputation.
