A WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF THE SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

lecturers and outstanding students engage in cutting-edge clinical, international, and community-based settings while doing creative, cooperative, and innovative research. To assist people everywhere live their best lives is our ultimate goal, and all of these things are essential to getting there. The school offers a wide range of nursing and midwifery programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate entry levels. At undergraduate level, we are one of few schools internationally that offer specialisms at the point of entry: general nursing; intellectual disability nursing, mental health nursing, integrated children’s and general nursing and a separate direct entry midwifery programme. At postgraduate level, we offer a number of specialist programmes including advanced practice. All teaching and learning is underpinned by innovative pedagogies, simulation based clinical education and research evidence. The University College Cork, School of Nursing and Midwifery is ranked number thirty-third nursing school in the World, according to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. The rankings highlight the world’s top universities in 48 different subject areas (as of 2019) based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact. The school moved to 1st in subject Ranking in Ireland in 2022 and remains for 2023. Professor Leahy-Warren, Head of school remarked, “We are so proud to be ranked 1 in Ireland and 33rd in the world for schools of nursing.” These rankings are testament to our commitment in our vision to be the world leading School of Nursing and Midwifery for excellence in learning and teaching, research and innovation. Our mission is to create new and sustain current clinical and academic partnerships to improve the health, care experience and outcomes for people and communities, through engaged evidence generation and accelerated evidence translation in collaboration with our community partners, locally, nationally and globally. Prospective students can use the QS World University Rankings by Subject QS Rankings to find the top universities worldwide in their field of study. There are four sources used in the compilation of each subject rating. The first two of these are global polls conducted by QS with academics and employers to evaluate an institution’s standing internationally in each subject. The subsequent two indicators evaluate the impact of research, utilising research citations per paper and the h-index, which measures the productivity and impact of published work in the relevant subject area.
