Growth, Innovation and Impact of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork, 2013-2018

The Story: On the 28th October 2018, the School of Nursing and Midwifery launched a Report titled GROWTH, INNOVATION AND IMPACT, reflecting the achievements of its strategic plan over the past 5 years. The launch was attended by President O’Shea, staff from the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONM), colleagues from the University community, and colleagues from health service providers. The Report illustrates the School as world class, dynamic, creative, and ambitious in its commitment to excellence in the provision of educational programmes, research and scholarship. Some of the highlights of the School’s success in the Report include: its ranking in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings for three years in a row since 2016; 8 new postgraduate programmes since 2013; 10 blended/online programmes in 2017 vs 1 in 2013; 550 non-EU students in 2018 vs 4 in 2013; growth in doctorate students; and 4.5M growth in research income since 2013.

The Report also highlights the School’s health service and community engagement activities as well as partnerships and engagement with community groups. In his address, President O’Shea commended the School on its achievements and noted that the School was exemplary in its commitment to education, research, and practice. He applauded the School’s engagement with community groups such as Young Knocknaheeney and Nurture. He wished the School continued success into the future.
