THEME 2 - ENHANCING CANCER AWARENESS AND SURVIVORSHIP PROGRAMME (ESCASP)

Dr Mohamad Saab and Team launch the E-MAT trial and “On The Ball” Campaign Reports in a Full Day Research Event Reports from the HRB-funded Enhancing Men’s Awareness of Testicular diseases using virtual reality (E-MAT) trial and the “On The Ball” inclusive community-based testicular awareness campaign were both launched during a full-day research event on Friday 24th November 2023 in the Mardyke Pavilion Function Room in UCC. The event was hosted by Dr Mohamad Saab, the Principal Investigator on both projects and was organised by Megan McCarthy, Research Support Officer. Professor Patricia Leahy-Warren gave the opening address, highlighting the importance of co-produced research like E-MAT and “On The Ball” in promoting the health of young men. The event started with a Behaviour Change Masterclass co-facilitated by International Collaborators Dr Gillian Shorter (Queens University Belfast) and Dr Michael Rovito (University of Central Florida). The Masterclass was followed by a Men’s Health Symposium with presentations from different men’s health researchers and community partners. From our School, Mx Ryan Goulding presented about men’s health beyond gender, Dr Lloyd Philpott discussed his research on paternal perinatal mental health, and Dr Brendan Noonan presented preliminary findings from the Linking In with Advice and Supports for Men impacted by Metastatic cancer (LIAM Mc) trial. The Symposium was chaired by Dr Angela Flynn. The final session involved the Launch of the E-MAT trial and “On The Ball” campaign reports. From our School Dr Mohamad Saab presented about the E-MAT trial and Professor Josephine Hegarty about the co-design and soft launch of the “On The Ball” campaign.
