Presentations and Awards during the College of Medicine and Health Bright Futures Research Day

Ms Carol Condon receives a President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Ms Carol Condon was awarded a President’s award for excellence in teaching at an awards ceremony on December 5th, 2023, in the Aula Maxima, UCC. Carol was nominated by a recent graduate, Ms Mingyue Zhang, who nominated her for ‘Ms Carol’s exceptional dedication to nursing education which has left an indelible mark on students’ learning experience. Ms Carol not only performs well in teaching, but also cares about the lives of students’. It was a lovely occasion made special by the attendance of Ms Mingyue Zhang (nominator), Professor Patricia Leahy- Warren (Head of School), as well as Carol’s family. The award will be displayed with pride.

• Dr Mohamad Saab who joined seven other distinguished UCC Doctoral Alumni including Professor Helen Whelton and Professor John O’Halloran to discuss career paths, experiences, and opportunities for future research graduates.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery had a strong presence during the College of Medicine and Health Inaugural Bright Futures Research Day which took place on the 26th of April 2023. This day included a keynote address by Professor Philip Nolan, showcase by employment-based PhD scholars, three-minute thesis competition, presentations by doctoral bursary awardees, research in one minute video competition, and fireside chat with doctoral alumni. The School would particularly like to congratulate: • PhD Student Edina Hanley on receiving the College of Medicine and Health “Outstanding Peer of the Year award 2023” and to PhD Student Sinead Horgan on receiving the “Postgraduate Researcher of the Year 2023.” • Louise Murphy, PhD Student who presented about her experience of successfully securing an employment-based PhD scholarship. • PhD students Yvonne Kelly and Liz Greene who presented posters. • Dr Irene Hartigan and PhD Student Catherine O’Riordan as well as Professor Josephine Hegarty and PhD Student Yvonne Kelly who co-presented during the “Pro-Am Three-Minute Thesis” session. • Sinead Horgan, PhD Student who presented about her experience securing a College of Medicine and Health Travel Bursary to attend a conference. • PhD Student Liz Greene who presented about her research on the head-to-toe assessment of the new-born during the “My PhD in 1-minute” video session.
