Dr Forde sought to describe the structures, processes and content of bedside handover at the change of nursing shift in an acute-care context. A graduate from the Doctorate of Nursing publishes her mixed methods research study in the Journal of Clinical Nursing. Dr Forde sought to describe the structures, processes and content of bedside handover at the change of nursing shift in an acute‐care context. Bedside handover was observed to be mainly conducted at a fast pace. However, within these timeframe large volumes of complex information were shared and important nurse–patient interactions occurred. This research helps to uncover the complexities involved in sharing complex information and highlights ways that this routine task could be further enhanced to increase patient participation.
