Dr Anne-Marie Martin presents at the Annual Roundtable Meeting of Profound Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities Special Interest Group in Berlin

In March 2020, Anne-Marie Martin attended the Annual Roundtable Meeting of the Special Interest Research Group (SIRG) in Profound Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities. This international meeting was hosted by the Katholische Hochschule für Sozialwesen (KHSB)/Catholic University for Social Services, Berlin and was attended by delegates from health, education, legal, social service and assistive technology professions as well as relatives of persons with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities. This international group of focuses on research with and for people with complex support needs and is part of the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD). Anne-Marie presented a paper titled ‘ People with Severe/ Profound Intellectual Disability as Research Participants: Ethical Considerations ’. Anne-Marie discussed the methods she used to include this group in her PhD study that explored the meaning-making process between people with severe/ profound intellectual disability and their communication partners. Following this meeting, Anne-Marie was invited to speak at a seminar in June to students on the Masters by Research (Special Needs Education) programme in KHSB about inclusion of people with intellectual disability.
