On Saturday 1 September, Miriam Kasztura from Switzerland and Alice Leahy from Dublin were presented with International Human Rights and Nursing Awards. Irish Times, Mon, Sep 3, 2018 “Alice Leahy receives international human rights award for her work. An extraordinary nurse-led service that offers respite, shelter, recognition’ to homeless. Presented by the International Care Ethics Observatory, at the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork, the awards were announced during the 19th International Nursing Ethics Conference there.” The IT announcement was tweeted by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, the following day. He said: “May I send my congratulations to Alice Leahy and Miriam Kasturza on being presented wit the 2018 Human Rights and Nursing Awards. Alice Leahy’s work for homeless people and Miriam Kasturza’s work for MSE is worthy of our recognition and grateful appreciation.” The conference organisers were pleased with the range of extremely positive evaluations e.g. “Just a quick email to congratulate and thank you for the fantastic ethics conference last weekend. It was so diverse and interesting.
