BSc MIDWIFERY DEGREE

This four-year undergraduate preregistration degree commenced in 2006 and the postgraduate Higher Diploma in Midwifery for registered general nurses also transferred to UCC at the same time. Dr. Rhona O’Connell with her expertise in curriculum development was one of the key drivers of these programmatic developments. The first cohort of undergraduate midwives commenced the BSc (Hons) Midwifery in 2006 and the first graduates from the programme graduated in 2010, with Ms. Annie Codd being the 1 st to graduate with a BSc Midwifery in UCC.

The educational programmes at the School of Nursing and Midwifery are facilitated through partnership and collaboration with many internal UCC Schools and Departments and partner Health Service and Social Care providers. Internal UCC stakeholders include: College of Medicine and Health & affiliated schools; Offices and Central Services within UCC; Schools or Departments of Anatomy, Applied Psychology, Applied Social Studies, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Public Health, Law, Food Science & Technology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Physics, Physiology, Philosophy, Sociology. Health Service provider partners include: South/ South West Hospital Group, Nursing and Midwifery Planning Development Unit, Bon Secours Hospital, Cork University Hospital Group, Mercy University Hospital, South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, COPE Foundation, HSE Mental Health Services, Cork University Maternity Hospital, Community Hospitals and Regional Community, Voluntary and Private Services
