BSC NURSING

The BSc programme was launched on 18th October 2002 with a dinner hosted by President Gerard Wrixon. A wide range of UCC and Health Service personnel attended including the then Minister for Health Minister Michael Martin. Both Dr. Harry Gijbels and Professor Eileen Savage deserve mention as the early pioneers in the development of the curricula underpinning the BSc Nursing programme.

The full-time undergraduate pre-registration programme leads to the award of a BSc. On successful completion of the programme, students are then recommended to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland for registration as a nurse in one of the following divisions of Nursing: General Nursing, Intellectual Disability Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Students must take modules specific to General Nursing, Intellectual Disability Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing in order to register in the relevant division. The BSc integrated children’s and general nursing is a 4.5 year programme which facilities dual registrations as both a registered general nurse and a registered children’s nurse The BSc nursing programme continues to attract a full cohort each year with high levels of first preference in CAO applications.
