UCC / School of Nursing and Midwifery

A Governance structure and executive management team came into existence with heads of schools leading each discipline. The Faculty of Medicine changed to a College of Medicine and Health and five Schools were established including a School of Nursing and Midwifery. The Dean is supported by a Faculty Executive, which comprises Heads of Schools and meets biweekly. Each Head of School “reports on behalf of their Departments to the Dean who reports on behalf of the Faculty to the President (see Report on Faculty Governance AC Agenda 18 th October 2002). The Head of School has executive responsibility for all matters relating to academic administration and resource management of the School including the provision of leadership for the development of the School and planning for its future direction; promoting cooperation within and between the substructures of the School; supporting curriculum development; ensuring internal consultation as appropriate; professional accreditation requirements; representing the school within the University; executing University policy and preparing school budgets. To discharge the management functions of the School accountability has been devolved to the School Manager (Ms Regina Murphy) and the Chairs of the School Standing Committees, to individual lecturers who manage academic programmes and to Branch and Module leaders.
