UCC / School of Nursing and Midwifery

Her experience with the Doctor of Nursing programme in Ohio provided a very useful launching pad for UCCs Professional Doctorate programme. She has brought the perspectives of nurse leaders internationally into the classroom in UCC with students having Master classes and Skype interviews with: Dr. Callista Roy (author of the Adaptation Model of Nursing); Dr. Patricia Benner (author of From Novice to Expert: Excellence and Power in Clinical Nursing Practice); Dr. Kathleen Gallo (Senior VP/Chief Learning Officer at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Care Inc); Professor Jean Watson (author of the Theory of Human Caring) as examples. Indeed, Professor Fitzpatrick and Professor Geraldine McCarthy co-hosted the International Nursing Editors Academy (INANE) conference in Cork in 2013. Staff from the School of Nursing and Midwifery have sought to develop global perspectives through Erasmus placements; taking Sabbatical leave, engaging with research and educational partners globally. Staff from the School have engaged in Erasmus exchange and placement experiences with staff traveling throughout the world. Staff have gone on Erasmus visits across Europe to countries for example France, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Greece, Portugal and Netherlands.
