STUDENTS COMING TO AND TRAVELING OUT FROM THE SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY

The School supports over 1200 students of different nationalities and cultures and facilitates the applications of international undergraduate and postgraduate students from outside of the European Union to study at the University. In addition, the School coordinates and provides support to students visiting from within the European Union, while also encouraging students to incorporate a period of study or work placement abroad into their undergraduate degree programme. Each year, global experiences emphasizing cultural appreciation and exploration of other health systems are offered to students to enrich their educational journey. The recognition of professional qualifications, laid out in the European Union’s Mutual Recognition of Professional Qualifications (MRPQ) directive, enables free movement of health care professionals. As part of Erasmus students have an opportunity to take a portion of their clinical placements in hospitals and health settings in The European Union. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has a longstanding tradition of inward and outward mobility of students and staff through the Erasmus + programme involving 10 countries in Europe (UK, Italy, France, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Greece, Portugal and Netherlands). The benefits of such exchange programmes to students and staff are huge. Research shows us that Erasmus exchanges impact on professional and social identity, personal growth, resilience and ethnic sensitivity in caring encounters with diverse cultures and an appreciation of different ethnic perspectives.
