Student Awards The School of Nursing and Midwifery Annual Student Award Ceremony marks the outstanding achievements of a number of the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate students. The celebratory evening highlights the exceptional work and talent of students and their engagement in various activities within the school, college, clinical practice, local community and beyond. Awards include the: undergraduate student of the year; postgraduate student of the year; student of the year; award for outstanding contribution to student life; award for recognition in sport; award for recognition in the arts and entertainment; and a community engagement/ activist award. In addition, the externally sponsored awards titled Patricia J. Power Excellence in Clinical Practice award and the Keady Clifford Excellence in Children’s Nursing award are also presented. Going forward the School is supporting the addition of two new awards to recognise the contribution of preceptors and the importance of optimum clinical learning environments. Other awards presented on an annual basis include: the SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Award); the Elaine Drummond Perpetual Award; the Niall O’Mahony Perpetual Award; and the Undergraduate Quercus College Scholarships. The School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC has had much success at the NUI Dr. H H Stewart Medical Scholarships with students from UCC typically scoring highly in many of the categories for example the 2018 NUI Dr. H H Stewart Medical Scholarship in Midwifery (1 st ) went to Claire Cronin; 2018 NUI Dr. H H Stewart Medical Scholarship in Nursing (3 rd ) was awarded to Sarah Ann Twomey and the 2018 NUI Dr. H H Stewart Medical Scholarship in Children’s Nursing (1 st ) was presented to Bronagh Nevin.
