The Experience An excellent student experience is central to the success of the School of Nursing and Midwifery in fulfilling its key responsibility to provide a positive environment for teaching, learning and research. The Student Experience Committee (through successive Chairpersons Dr. Aine Horgan and Dr. Rena Creedon and committees) have led the strategic development and direction of policy and practice related to the student experience in the school. UCCs’ Nursing and Midwifery Society as the academic society for nurses and midwives at UCC aims to promote fun as well as learning. The Society was founded in 2003 by Dr. Patrick Cotter of UCC and a group of nursing and midwifery students. The society plays an active role within the school of nursing representing a large student body focusing on three main facets - social, charitable and educational. The foci of the society are identified each year as the student committee come together to plan events such as educational speakers, health promotion across campus, fundraising for local charities, peer support and guidance along with hosting their annual social event the Nursing and Midwifery Ball. In addition to this, the nursing and midwifery society promotes and engages in interdisciplinary collaborations with their health science colleagues from various other societies. Using social media platforms as their key communication channel this enables the society to achieve one of their central core values, inclusion.

Nursing and Midwifery Society making a charitable donation of €1,300 to their charity of the year, Pieta House. This amount will cover the cost of one person’s treatment through Pieta House.
