AWARDS

The Elaine Drummond perpetual award presented to Ms Arletta Iwan Dr Maria Caples gave a wonderful address remembering her dearly departed colleague and friend Elaine Drummond on the presentation of the Elaine Drummond perpetual award. Elaine worked as a team member of the Intellectual Disability team at UCC and was a valued member of staff. The award was presented to Ms Arletta Iwan, a student on the year four BSc Intellectual Disability Nursing programme on the 17th of September. Arletta was described as being person centred, empowered, dynamic and a holistic practitioner. Arletta was an outstanding student and a great ambassador for intellectual disability nursing.

2021 University College Cork, PhD Scholarships programme for Nurses and Midwives. The School of Nursing and Midwifery awarded funded scholarships to support the fees for full-time and part-time entry into the PhD programme in September 2021.

Lead and Team Members

The scholarships were open to registered nurses and midwives, who are excited by research, have a strong desire to enhance clinical practice and contribute to evidence-based approaches to care. The School of Nursing and Midwifery PhD Scholarship offers a pathway to nurses and midwives to conduct research. Scholarship programmes were offered on the following projects:

Title: Development of a digital mental health promotion tool for vulnerable populations (e.g., School children, young adults, marginalised groups, staff working with vulnerable populations, those who misuse substances).

Title: An eHealth intervention to improve psychosocial outcomes for women in the perinatal period

Title: The development and pilot testing of an intervention to enhance the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding
