AWARDS

Dr Johnny Goodwin and Catarina Araújo awarded the Agility Award ( € 5000) to produce art influenced by the impact of COVID-19 on mental health Dr Johnny Goodwin and Catarina Araújo were successful in their application for the Agility Award through the Arts Council. Catarina is a Cork-based Portuguese artist. The goal of Catarina’s work is to create a series of artworks that responds to how the current pandemic might be impacting mental health services, front-line staff, and students. Catarina says, “My art practice has previously explored mental health conditions, focusing on personal trauma, repressed memories, and behavioural patterns. My interest is informed by a need to understand the correlation between body and mind in terms of how past experiences can inform the way we function in the present moment. I am now interested in creating artworks considering people’s personal accounts of how the pandemic has impacted them, their practices and their daily lives.” Dr Goodwin has acted as a mentor for Catarina as part of this project. He has provided her with guidance and helped to build her network of collaborators – those working in mental health services.
