Ethics expert, Dr Joan McCarthy, on Pandemic Ethics Advisory Group The Pandemic Ethics Advisory Group (PEAG), was established by the Department of Health on the 19th March 2020 as an expert sub-group of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), to act as an ethics advisory body to government, policymakers and health service providers relating to COVID-19 preparedness and response. Dr Joan McCarthy, Senior Lecturer, School of Nursing and Midwifery, UCC was invited on to this multidisciplinary group as an expert in healthcare ethics.

Team from UCC investigates support needs of individuals with Young Onset Dementia Dr Caroline Kilty co-authored a report in conjunction with the Centre for Gerontology, School of Medicine which was launched on Monday 21st September 2020 from the National Dementia Office. The launch of the report coincides with World Alzheimer’s Day, and September World Alzheimer’s month. The mixed methods study aimed to investigate the diagnostic and post-diagnostic support needs of people with Young Onset Dementia in Ireland. The report “highlights the shortcomings of the Irish healthcare system in caring for people with Young Onset Dementia (YOD), reviews international experience and good practice and therefore formulates recommendations to improve the care and support of people with YOD in Ireland”.
