CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE/PRESENTATIONS

Ms. Megan McCarthy presents a Poster about the E-MAT Trial at the 16th European Public Health Conference in Dublin. Megan McCarthy, Research Support Officer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at UCC, presented a poster about the E-MAT trial at the 16th European Public Health Conference, which was held on the 9nd of November 2023 in the Convention Centre in Dublin. The title of her presentation was: “Enhancing Men’s Awareness of Testicular Diseases (E-MAT): A Feasibility Trial and Process Evaluation”. This project is funded by the Health Research Board, under the Definitive Intervention and Feasibility Awards scheme and is led by Dr Mohamad Saab, Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at UCC. E-MAT is a three-level virtual reality game aimed to raise young men’s awareness of testicular diseases. A total of 74 participants

were recruited from 9 GAA clubs in Cork. The feasibility comprised a Study Within A Trial (SWAT) to determine which social media strategy(ies) is/are most effective in recruiting study participants, an economic evaluation of the cost of developing and delivering the E-MAT intervention, a process evaluation exploring E-MAT intervention dose, reach and fidelity, and a feasibility trial comparing the effect of E-MAT delivered using virtual reality to E-MAT delivered using a PDF on an iPad. Numerous outputs from this project are currently underway. Findings from this project are promising, warranting the conduct of a future definitive trial. Lead and Team Members: Dr Mohamad M.
