HIGHER DIPLOMA IN MIDWIFERY
SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY AT A GLANCE
About the Programme The Higher Diploma in Midwifery is a full-time programme. for qualified general nurses. The programme leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland as a registered midwife. Successful applicants receive a contract of employment from the HSE for the duration of the programme. Registered midwives who complete the programme will be eligible for midwifery registration in another EU Member State when they have completed one further year of clinical practice. Course Delivery Students take 50 credits in Year 1 and 40 credits in Year 2. The course is full-time and offered in partnership predominantly with Cork University Maternity Hospital, but students may be allocated to other maternity units in the South West Hospital Group. Entry Requirements Hold professional registration as a general nurse with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or be eligible for such registration. Course Duration The programme duration is 18 months (80 weeks) and is offered on a continuous basis with students commencing the programme in either September or March.

Cost: EU candidates will receive full funding for the programme. Other candidates will need to contact the NRS for eligibility criteria.
